Traineeships in Floristry
This training program is funded by the Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development
Traineeships are available for the Nationally Recognised Certificate II, III and IV in Floristry from the National Training Package for Floristry (WRF).
What is a Traineeship?
A traineeship is similar to an apprenticeship where there is a partnership between the trainee, employer and registered training organisation. The average duration is for 12 months per certificate level.
A trainee can be employed on a full-time or part-time basis and is open to anyone aged between 16 and 64 years. Off the job training is provided by Flowers Design School and funded through the Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development.
The duration of the program can be shortened or extended depending on the progress of the trainee both on and off the job.
Do Trainees receive a qualification?
Yes! After successfully completing a traineeship program, trainees are awarded a Nationally recognised certificate that is endorsed by the floral industry.
What are the responsibilities for the employer?
The Trainee becomes a full-time or part-time employee for the period of the traineeship. The employer and trainee agree to a traineeship wage, which is stated in the AWARD (info at Wageline). The employer may be entitled to an incentive payment. The employer or manager is responsible for assisting the trainee with the on-the-job training. Off the job training covers a broad range of floristry, sales and personal work skills. These skills enable the trainee to become useful to the employer. Areas of study include cut flower care, a large range of practical floristry skills, underpinning knowledge exploring the application of the elements and principles of design, product knowledge, point of sale systems and procedures, selling and customer service skills and ensuring safe working practices are upheld.
On completion of the certificate II traineeship, you can continue your career path and study certificate III in floristry. The duration is approximately 12 months on and off the job training. The focus at this level is aimed at intermediate to advanced floristry skills applied to corporate, bridal, funeral, commercial ship designs as well as advanced retail and basic management skills.
Training delivered off the job is aimed at large scale corporate, events and competition standard practical skills in addition to theoretical training in small business management. This training program ideally suits a senior role within the floristry business.
